Blood Pressure Medication Helps Adults with T1D

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham revealed ‘Verapamil’, (common blood pressure medication) helps adults with Type 1 diabetes.

The UAB researchers said Verapamil can help promote more insulin production in adults with recent onset Type 1 diabetes. The treatment limits the need for insulin injections. This blood pressure medication breakthrough can be a game changer for treating T1D unlike other breakthroughs.

Dr. Anath Shalev with the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center said “We’re hoping that this will provide ultimately a new approach to diabetes therapy with just an oral medication, patients will be able to maintain more of their own insulin production.”
