Insulin Pump Therapy

Switched to Tandem’s t:slim X2 insulin pump – Dexcom G6

For the past 2+ years I’ve been using the Minimed 670g insulin pump system for my diabetes treatment. However, I found the guardian CGM was very inaccurate. There were times when my blood sugar readings were off by more than 50 points. And this occurred at times when I didn’t eat for hours (stable blood sugar). I’ve read many good things about the t:slim x2 by Tandem, so let me give you reasons for switching to Tandem’s t:slim X2 insulin pump with the Dexcom G6 CGM.

Why I Switched to Tandem’s t:slim X2 insulin pump with Dexcom G6

Since the 670g only delivers micro-boluses when in auto mode, it has a hard time controlling rising blood glucose levels. If your carb counting is off and you under-bolus, then the 670g’s micro-boluses do very little to bring down your bg to normal levels. Unlike the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump with Dexcom G6 CGM and Control-IQ technology, which delivers automatic boluses once an hour when needed. This occurs when your sugar is rising and out of range on the high end (a great feature). This is the main reason why I switched. Also, I found the Dexcom G6 CGM (continuous glucose monitor) gives more accurate blood sugar readings than Medtronic’s guardian CGM. Another big advantage with the G6 is that there is no need for calibration.

Please note: I’ve been using Medtronic insulin pumps for over 20 years and they’ve served me well until the 670g, which didn’t work well for me. Tandem’s t:slim X2 insulin pump system has been working great for me for the past 3 weeks.
